LVPEI’s partner, C L Gupta Eye Institute in Moradabad, inaugurated its second vision centre, the Mahant Nirmal Singh Memorial Vision Centre, on October 11, 2012. It is located in an ashram owned by the Institute’s secretary, Sardar Gurvinder Singh, and named in honor of his father. LVPEI and IAPB have provided grant-in-aid for the 2 vision centres. C L Gupta Eye Institute is headed by 2 LVPEI alumni, Dr Pradeep Agarwal and Dr Ashi Khurana.

Silver Jubilee Meet of LVP Alumni Association |
|
The Silver Jubilee LVPEI Alumni meet on May 31, 2012, was attended by many alumni from different parts of the world. On the occasion, the alumni pledged to raise Rs 1 crore to set up a “Distinguished Alumni Chair.” A part of the sum was handed over to Dr Gullapalli N Rao. Dr Sunil Singh, senior alumnus, honored Dr Rao on behalf of all the alumni for being an exemplary mentor and teacher, who imparted all the skills to grow professionally and individually to his fellows. Other senior teachers honored for their excellent teaching skills were Dr G Chandra Sekhar, Prof D Balasubramanian, Dr Satish Gupta, Dr Aashish Bansal, Dr Taraprasad Das, Dr Anil K Mandal, Dr Savitri Sharma and anesthetists Dr Sitaram Prasad, Dr CVM Reddy and Dr P Sreeramulu. Dr Jayaprakash Narayan, Lok Satta Party President, and Member, Legislative Assembly, Andhra Pradesh, and Mr Subroto Bagchi, Managing Director of MindTree, were the invited speakers for the alumni meet.See Pictures Alumni NewsDr APJ Abdul Kalam visited C L Gupta Eye Institute at Moradabad on May 21, 2012. AAO Achievement Award for Dr Ramesh Murthy
Dr Ramesh Murthy, oculoplasty fellow and former consultant at LVPEI, was awarded the Achievement Award and the International Ophthalmology Education Award by the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) in October 2011. He recently started the Axis Eye Clinic at Pune — a superspecialty center for oculofacial plastic surgery and squint.
Annual Meeting at Bhubaneswar
The 2011 LVPEI alumni meeting was a great success – marked by bonhomie and learning. This year, the meeting was held at L V Prasad Eye Institute, Bhubaneswar, as part of its 5th anniversary celebrations from January 15-16, 2011. The events included a CME program ‘EYE 2011’ and a cultural fiesta, with former President of India Dr APJ Abdul Kalam gracing the occasion. Many LVPEI alumni, from India and overseas, attended the annual get-together and presented their work at the CME, which was appreciated by all the participants. The alumni also had a unique opportunity to interact with Dr APJ Abdul Kalam at a special session on January 15, 2011. The meeting also recognized the fact that alumni from various parts of India and abroad continue to utilize LVPEI’s resources, such as corneal tissues, amniotic membranes, tissue glue and polyhexamethylene biguanide (PHMB). Alumnus and current consultant at LVPEI Hyderabad, Dr Somasheila Murthy made a donation in the name of her father, Late Shri IRK Murthy. It supported the construction of a beautiful garden walkway, which was inaugurated by Dr APJ Abdul Kalam.
