Vision and dignity both restored

Deaf and mute by birth, Thaneeru Venkata Ramana, 43, had faced many hardships in life. When her vision started deteriorating, her husband abandoned her and their little daughter. Dependent on her mother ever since, she eventually lost her vision completely and has been resigned to a crippled existence as she could ill afford treatment. When LVPEI organized a vision screening camp in her village Singarayakonda in Prakasam district, AP, she was seen crawling as she could not even walk without support. Vision Technician Bharathi referred her to the Sudhakar and Sreekanth Ravi Eye Centre where she was successfully operated for cataract in both her eyes. Her vision restored, Thaneeru is extremely delighted she can now walk independently and even contribute to household activities. She has since persuaded her mother to undergo cataract surgery at the centre.
