In the year 2006, L V Prasad Eye Institute (LVPEI) expanded its services by establishing two more tertiary eye care centres in Bhubaneswar and Visakhapatnam. LVPEI Bhubaneswar is located in Orissa's capital city. Its mission is to:

Provide the highest quality cost-effective medical and surgical eye care, irrespective of social status or
  the ability to pay
Be a Centre of Excellence in the world of eye care services
Offer finest medical education and surgical training to eye care professionals, and
Conduct innovative relevant research

Based on the mission, the Institute's five areas of focus are comprehensive eye care, sight enhancement and low vision rehabilitation, rural and community eye health, education and training, and research.

The Drushti Daan Eye Bank processes over 60 corneas every year. Drushti daan's proactive Hospital Cornea Retrieval Program enables the Institute to perform corneal transplantations within the minimum period.
LVPEI is one of the few institutes in Asia with an exclusive facility for visually impaired children. At the Vision Rehabilitation Centre children and adults with incurable visual impairment are provided rehabilitation services and devices that enable them to live a fuller life.
