11th Education Day

The Standard Chartered-LVPEI Academy for Eye Care Education recently celebrated its 11th Education Day, honouring 326 trainees. The graduating class comprised ophthalmologists, optometrists, vision technicians, ophthalmic nurse assistants, vision rehabilitation and technical assistants, ophthalmic medical equipment technicians, and community eye health professionals.

Top-performing ophthalmology and optometry trainees were recognized as outstanding achievers.

The event's guest of honour, Dr Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani, Minister of State for Rural Development and Communications, Government of India, inspired the graduates to innovate, dream big, and persevere in pursuit of their goals. He emphasized the importance of their role in making the world a better place.

Prof Chen Zhi Xiong, Assistant Dean (Education) at the National University of Singapore's Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, highlighted the value of interdisciplinary education and interprofessional collaboration in his address.

Dr Prashant Garg, Executive Chair of LVPEI, congratulated the graduating batch and urged them to remain committed to their responsibilities, particularly in addressing India's unique challenges. He also emphasized the importance of lifelong learning and staying curious.
