Dr Niranjan Pehere becomes the first West African College of Surgeons (WACS) fellow

Dr Niranjan Pehere received the Fellowship of the West African College of Surgeons (WACS),  as a part the 65th annual conference of WACS.  He is the first ophthalmologist in Liberia and the first Indian to have received the fellowship.  The fellowship allows Dr Niranjan a formal entry to the academia of the subregion . It opens doors for possibilities to expand the reach of LVPEI's training program to deserving candidates from other countries in the region.

The WACS fellowship is awarded to non-African nationals only if they:
1. Have sub/superspecialty training from a recognised institution
2. Have served in West Africa (any of the 14 countries) for at least 5 years post training (excluding training period)
3. Attended three annual conferences of WACS
4. Participated in 5 surgical outreaches of the College (surgical outreach is an interesting and impactful concept of WACS that immensely benefits the needy patients in the country where their conference is held)
