Glaucoma Awareness Week 2025 Round Up

The LVPEI eye care network commemorated the Glaucoma Awareness Week during March 8-16, to raise awareness about the disease that can affect both adults and children. The week-long commemoration had social media campaigns, workshops for practitioners and continuous medical education (CME) sessions. It culminated with the Glaucoma Awareness Walk on March 16, 2025, themed ‘No Reason to Lose Hope’. 

Kallam Anji Reddy Campus, Hyderabad
Mr V C Sajjanar, IPS, Managing Director - Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (Ex- ADGP, Telangana) was the chief guest and Mr K K Senthil, the cinematographer of popular movies Bahubali and RRR, was the guest of honor. About 600 people participated in the walk that began at the LVPEI, Kallam Anji Reddy campus.  The walk was officially flagged off with the release of balloons, accompanied by a surprise flash mob dance.  

During the event, the guests and glaucoma faculty emphasized the importance of comprehensive eye examinations, regular follow-ups and use of prescribed medication, dangers of overuse of steroids and need to create awareness about glaucoma-the silent thief of sight.  

The event concluded with a group photography session, capturing the spirit and unity of the participants.  

GMR Varalakshmi Campus, Visakhapatnam
About 200 people participated in the Glaucoma Awareness Walk on March 16, 2025 that began at Kali Mandir on Beach Road and ended at YVMC, Visakhapatnam.  A patient education session was also held, in which experts answered questions and clarified doubts of patients. About 250 participated in this session.  

Kode Venkatadri Chowdary Campus, Vijayawada
Mr. Bode Prasad Garu, MLA Penamaluru constituency was the chief guest at the Glaucoma Awareness Walk on March 16, 2025. About 300 people participated in the walk that began at the LVPEI, Kode Venkatadri Chowdary Campus Vijayawada and ended at the Tadigadapa main centre.   

A press meet was organized on March 15 where doctors answered questions regarding glaucoma to raise awareness. Competitions were conducted competition among optometrists, interns and vision technicians on 3D innovation in glaucoma. 

The day-long glaucoma foundation course was organized which included didactic lectures, interactive discussions focusing on diagnosis, imaging modalities, clinical decision-making, surgical interventions and hands-on training sessions, benefiting both ophthalmologists and glaucoma specialists. 

Mithu Tulsi Charai Campus, Bhubaneshwar
About 200 people participated in the walk that began at Patia square and ended at Big Bazar Crossing, Bhubaneshwar.   Patient awareness sessions were organized in the waiting halls. 

A day-long glaucoma foundation course was organized for PG students which included didactic lectures, interactive discussions focusing on diagnosis, imaging modalities, clinical decision-making, surgical interventions and hands-on training sessions, benefiting both ophthalmologists and glaucoma specialists. 

The YouTube Live session was organized where experts answered questions in Odia for the convenience of local audience.  

A fun session was organized for kids of employees and child patients.  

Raja Sekhara Reddy Campus, Kadapa
An awareness session was organized for class 9 and 10 students of Bheeram Sreedhar Reddy International School. Mr Subba Reddy, the principal of the school was the chief guest at the session.
