LVPEI-Liberia Eye Center Celebrates its 7th Anniversary

The LVPEI-managed Liberia Eye Center, established in Monrovia, West Africa, marked its 7th Anniversary with a celebratory event presided over by Dr Linda Birch, CEO of John F Kennedy Medical Center. Distinguished guests included Dr Emmanuel Tamba, Ms Dama Y. Koffa, Dr Taraprasad Das, and Dr Savitri Sharma, among others.

The event honoured Ms Joylina Kollie and Mr Joseph Lansana as employees of the year and recognized eleven staff members with 5-year service awards. Three employees received 'Continuous Professional Development' certificates for advanced training at LVPEI, Hyderabad. Ms Filimina Wleh, the first in-house trained ophthalmic nurse assistant, was also awarded her training certificate. Her story is inspiring, from starting as a cleaner at the Center to transforming into a competent ophthalmic nurse assisting in various eye surgeries.

The program's highlight was the inauguration of a new optical edging facility by Dr Tamba and Dr Sharma, which will significantly reduce the wait time and cost of patients' glasses. Dr Niranjan Pehere, the Center's head, highlighted its achievements, and Dr Birch praised its service to Liberians and neighbouring countries. The celebration underscored the centre's commitment to excellent, equitable eye care.
