LVPEI’s Global Ophthalmology Fellowship: A Journey of Exponential Growth

An international exposure visit to the Liberia Eye Center in Monrovia, as part of LVPEI’s Global Ophthalmology Fellowship (GOF), has profoundly impacted our visiting fellows. In just three months, they have gained invaluable experiences that have expanded their perspectives on life and careers. Their time in Liberia has been truly transformative.

'Living and working in a resource-limited environment in Liberia was an adventure that imparted invaluable lessons in patience, discipline, empathy, and teamwork. It deepened my appreciation for the privileges I enjoy in India. My experience also fulfilled my late father’s dream, as he always encouraged me to serve the underprivileged.'
- Dr Charuta Shrotriya

'Witnessing firsthand how empathy can transcend language barriers and create meaningful connections was inspiring. Participating in the initiative for universal eye screening for newborns at the Liberian-Japanese Friendship Maternity Hospital was just one of the impactful programs we engaged in. I am deeply grateful for the unwavering guidance from senior faculty in India, which empowered us to make a meaningful difference beyond borders.'
