‘LVPEI Open House’, organized by Prof. Brien Holden Eye Research Centre, intended to invite talent from academic/research organizations in Hyderabad for them to know about the unique research facilities at LVPEI, foster the exchange of knowledge and strengthen collaborative initiatives. The participants from different institutions in Hyderabad with diverse academic backgrounds including the in-house research fellows actively participated in scientific deliberations, and fun events, and shared their research activities through scientific presentations, artwork, and facility tours.
The participants were welcomed by Dr. Prashant Garg, Executive Chair, Prof. D. Balasubramanian, Distinguished Scientist & Director of Research Emeritus, LVPEI, and Dr. Sayan Basu (Director of Research, LVPEI. The keynote lecture was delivered by Dr. N. Madhusudhana Rao. A conversation with Dr. Sisinthy Shivaji (Director Emeritus and Senior Scientist, LVPEI) truly inspired the students to believe in themselves, grab opportunities, and realize their dreams. It also exemplified a scientist's passion to achieve his goals with consistent focus, hard work, punctuality, and discipline.
A career guidance session led by the panelists: Dr. Somdatta Karak (CSIR-CCMB), Dr Ponnari Gottipati (LVPEI), and Ms Rupsy Khurana (Nature Conservation Foundation), greatly emphasized the need for programs like Science Communication, Public Outreach, and Research Management to be included in the academic curriculum to cater the training needs in these yet underrepresented career options.
