The Shantilal Shanghvi Cornea Institute (SSCI), an Institute of Excellence and a Global Resource Centre marked its first anniversary with a celebratory event on December 2, 2023 (Note: SSCI's anniversary is November 12). The distinguished guests of honour, Mr Sailesh Desai, Trustee of the Shantilal Shanghvi Foundation, and Mr Narendra Lakkad, Principal Advisor of the foundation, graced the occasion. The network-wide celebration featured comprehensive presentations showcasing the impactful work accomplished by the institute during its inaugural year. This included extending patient care to the last mile, breakthrough research for advanced corneal conditions, education, innovation, and vision rehabilitation.
Dr Pravin K Vaddavalli, Director of SSCI, highlighted the implemented systems to educate patients about the necessity of follow-up care, ensure medication compliance, and provide affordable and easily accessible care. He underscored the significance of teleophthalmology and other innovations in delivering last-mile care to patients closer to their homes. Mr Sailesh Desai expressed his satisfaction with the Shantilal Shanghvi Foundation's association with LVPEI and commended the impactful contributions of the Shantilal Shanghvi Cornea Institute in improving patient outcomes and quality of life.
