Whitathon 2024

Whitathon is L V Prasad Eye Institute’s premier initiative to raise awareness and funds for the early diagnosis and treatment of children battling Retinoblastoma, a curable eye cancer if detected early. This year, LVPEI organized 6th edition of Whitathon in Hyderabad and 3rd edition in Bhubaneswar, Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada. 

Hyderabad: This year, LVPEI hosted the 6th edition of Whitathon in Hyderabad, with Dr Vineeth G, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Madhapur Zone, Telangana, as the chief guest. Dr Vineeth flagged off the run and joined as a participant, showing his steadfast support for the cause. The event saw over 2300 participants, including runners, volunteers, and sponsors, united in their commitment to fighting Retinoblastoma.

Bhubaneswar: Over 200 participants from the public, the pharmaceutical community, NGOs, and LVPEI staff came together for the Whitathon walk, demonstrating their solidarity and support.

Visakhapatnam: The run was flagged off by Baby Kodela Sudeekha, a Retinoblastoma survivor, and Arjuna Awardee Seera Jayaram. The run witnessed the enthusiastic participation of over 350 runners, including members of Vizag Runners, the Indian Medical Association, and Omega Cancer Hospital, making it a resounding success.

Vijayawada: The Honourable Governor of Andhra Pradesh, S Abdul Nazeer, endorsed our mission by participating in the T-shirt unveiling event on May 14th. More than 300 participants joined the Whitathon, strengthening our campaign to raise awareness about Retinoblastoma.

Overall, the Whitathon 2024 edition brought together over 3300 participants, showcasing a powerful collective commitment to combating Retinoblastoma through early detection and treatment.
