Niranjan Pehere received his basic medical education from Pune University in 2003. He received his postgraduate training in ophthalmology from the Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, Kochi in 2008, followed by a fellowship from the International Council of Ophthalmology. After completing a 2-year fellowship programme in Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus from LVPEI, in 2010 he joined LVPEI’s Jasti V Ramanamma Children’s Eye Care Centre.
Dr Pehere is the recipient of the Hanumanth Reddy Award for Best Paper in Pediatric Ophthalmology presented during the 70th annual conference of the All India Ophthalmological Society at Cochin in February 2012. In addition to this, he has also received the Narsing A Rao Award for best paper presentation at the annual meeting of the Uveitis Society of India in 2009; third prize at the Young Researcher’s Award Session during the annual conference of the All India Ophthalmological Society in 2009; and travel fellowship from the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research, New Delhi to attend the World Congress of Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus at Barcelona, Spain in 2009. He has to his credit several publications in international and national journals and is a reviewer for the American Journal of Ophthalmology, JAAPOS and Journal of Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus. His areas of interest include Pediatric Cataract, Cerebral Visual Impairment in children, Childhood Blindness and Teaching Methodologies. He did a short term fellowship at the Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children, London in 2019. From July 2019 he joined Liberia Eye Center.
