Dr K. Arunasri
Designation: Research Scientist Specialisation: Ocular Microbiome Research Email: drarunasri@lvpei.org Location: Kallam Anji Reddy Campus, Hyderabad
Arunasri received her PhD from Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad. Her initial work involved isolation cultivation and identification of phototrophic purple bacteria. She was instrumental in publishing the first novel species of phototrophic purple bacteria ‘Marichromatium indica’ from India. After completing her PhD, she received CSIR - Research associate and Dr Kothari Post-doctoral fellowships. Trained in multidisciplinary biosciences at CSIR - Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology and CSIR - Indian Institute of Chemical Technology, Dr Arunasri worked on ‘microgravity effects of E. coli’; Global gene expression of ocular E. coli; Response of bacterioplankton to iron fertilization of the Southern Ocean, Antarctica and Implications of the microbiome in microbial fuel cells. She also received DBT BioCARE Women Scientist grant to conduct her research.
At Prof. Brien Holden Eye Research Centre, L V Prasad Eye Institute, Hyderabad, she studies the Ocular Bacterial microbiome, Mycobiome and Virome to understand the disease pathology associated with the ocular infections or inflammatory disorders by metagenomic sequencing approach. Her investigations, for the first time, helped in identifying the presence of microbiome in the intraocular fluids of post fever retinitis and uveitis individuals.
