Dr Amithavikram R Hathibelagal

Dr Hathibelagal is an Optometrist by training. He did his Bachelors in Optometry from the Elite School of Optometry, Sankara Nethralaya, Chennai. He did his Masters in Vision Science at the University of Waterloo, Canada. Later, he completed his PhD from the Queensland University of Technology, Australia, under the mentorship of Prof Andrew J Zele. Subsequently, he did his post-doctoral training at L V Prasad Eye Institute, Hyderabad. His primary research interest is to study the visual-functional markers that help in early detection, progression and treatment outcomes of retinal diseases. He also has a keen interest in developing these markers.
Dr Hathibelagal has received several awards during his undergraduate and post-graduate studies. He received the QUT Postgraduate Research Award (QUTPRA) and QUT HDR tuition fee waiver scholarship during his PhD candidature. He has mentored more than ten post-graduate Optometry research projects. Many of them resulted in peer-reviewed publications. He teaches optometry post-graduate students in their pre-clinical training sessions. He has several publications in peer-reviewed international vision science journals and is also a reviewer in many optometry/ophthalmology journals. He has also presented his research work at several national and international vision science conferences.
