Beula Christy received her bachelor's and master’s degrees in Rehabilitation Science from Holy Cross College in Tiruchirapalli, Tamil Nadu. She further pursued a postgraduate diploma in guidance and counseling from Annamalai University, Tamil Nadu, followed by a PhD in vision science from the University of New South Wales (UNSW), Sydney. Deeply passionate about working with children with special needs, vision loss, and developmental disabilities, Christy obtained additional specialization in intellectual impairment from Bhoj University, Madhya Pradesh, and received training from Bartimeus on early intervention for children with multiple handicaps. She also completed the prestigious fellowship in the 'Educational Leadership Program' (ELP 2023) at the Perkins School for the Blind, Boston, Massachusetts.
Christy has been instrumental in setting up vision rehabilitation centers in LVPEI’s network and several other hospitals. Her special areas of interest lie in three key areas: Community-Based Rehabilitation, early intervention for children with vision impairment and multiple disabilities, and Cortical/Cerebral Vision Impairment. Her notable awards and recognitions include the Sr. Elizabeth Rose Best Rehabilitation Worker Award in 2004, the Project Management Award (PMI) for leading a Community-Based Project in 2018, and the Excellence Award by Holy Cross College in 2024 for outstanding contributions to the rehabilitation field.
With 33 years of rich experience at the LV Prasad Eye Institute, Dr. Christy has made a profound impact on the rehabilitation of thousands of people with visual impairment across all age groups. She has trained hundreds of rehabilitation professionals, delivered numerous presentations, and authored several publications.
