Dr G Chandra Sekhar is the Vice Chairman Emeritus of the L V Prasad Eye Institute. He is a senior Glaucoma Consultant associated with LVPEI since its inception in 1987. Dr GC, as he is popularly known, is an astute clinician and a passionate teacher.
In recognition of his contributions as the Director of Education at LVPEI, the 'G Chandra Sekhar Chair of Director of Education' was established in 2003. Dr GC was the former head of the glaucoma services and has trained over 43 glaucoma fellows, including 7 international fellows.
He has published over 100 papers in national and international peer-reviewed journals and has been a reviewer for several Ophthalmology journals. He holds the position of Clinical Professor at the University of Rochester and has been a visiting professor at the University of California, San Diego, USA.
Dr GC served as the President of the Glaucoma Society of India (2005-06) and is a member of the Glaucoma Research Society, which has a membership limited to 100. He has served on the Clinical Guidelines Committee of the International Council of Ophthalmology (ICO) and the Membership Committee of the Glaucoma Research Society. He currently serves on the board of the World Glaucoma Association.
