Dr Ruby K Prakasam

Ruby Kala Prakasam joined LVPEI after completing Diploma in Optometry from Christian Medical College, Vellore, to pursue a fellowship in Optometry. Since completing her fellowship in 2000-2002, she continued to work as a consultant optometrist in the Contact Lens unit of LVPEI. Her clinical expertise lies in fitting and dispensing various speciality contact lenses.

Ruby's participation in LVPEI- CCLRU collaborative research projects, laid path towards pursuing her Master’s degree in Optometry from the University of New South Wales. After which she moved to Germany to pursue a PhD in the field of corneal confocal imaging from the University of Rostock. During this period she worked on understanding epithelial cell morphology and also involved in the development of Visual analytics-based software to analyze OCT datasets. Her work has been presented at international conferences and published in the peer-reviewed journals. Dr Prakasam is an IACLE member and actively involved in contact lens educational program. Her major research areas have been corneal imaging, OCT data analysis, corneal health in contact lens wear, and contact lens discomfort.
