Uma Thigale completed her basic medical education from Dr. Vasantrao Pawar Medical College, Nashik, Maharashtra. She then completed her post-graduation and served as Associate Professor at Dr. Vaishampayan Memorial Government Medical College, Solapur, Maharashtra . She later pursued a three-year fellowship in 'Cornea and Anterior Segment' from L V Prasad Eye Institute. Her areas of interest include - Cataracts, Ocular Infections, Keratoconus, Corneal Transplantations and Refractive Surgeries.
Her research focuses on decreasing corneal blindness - secondary to corneal scars and various corneal disorders. Uma has presented at national and international conferences, and her research work has also been published in peer reviewed journals.
